I am really excited to vote tomorrow. It is interesting that this election feels so important to me. I say this for a couple of reasons. First, and the most obvious one, is that there is finally a black man that is a serious contender for President of the United States, which is history making in and of itself.
Second, I am 26 years old and getting ready to start a family of my own, and now am a small business owner. Even though I have voted in a Presidential election 2 previous times, I don’t believe I fully understood the great impact that my vote could really have. Now, I am looking at the candidates through adult eyes, not college ones. That may sound silly, but I can understand much better what I argued with my father about 4 years ago. I see his perspective about finances and taxes and I realize that social issues are not the only force driving my opinion.
However, come Wednesday when this is all said and done, I hope more than anything that my candidate wins. I know that both men care about our country, but I truly feel like only one man cares about me, a young woman.
Oh, and here is something pretty to look at.
This is where we will be getting married in less than 2 weeks!

Yes, I agree that something about this election feels more momentous than any in my 26 years (we’re the same age!). It’s so many factors coming together: the candidates, the climate of the country now and in recent years, and I think also that blogs and the internet have played such a huge role in motivating voters and political discussion unlike ever before…I’m on pins and needles for the results tonight!
On a totally separate note—-2 WEEKS TO GO! How excited are you?!

I totally agree with your sentiments pre-election. I felt that this was the first election that really mattered to me …. as a small business owner and 26 year old as well
While everyone tried to spin Obama’s tax “increase,” the reality is that I would enjoy a tax cut …. and if your business is making more than $250K, even if you are a plumber, you should pay a bit more taxes!
